Tin Can Lanterns

Tin Can Lanterns

I know all of you have had to open a tin can once or twice in your life, hopefully you recycle them but I know a lot of you just throw them out! I understand, it is easy! Well if you are not going to recycle your tin cans why not take them and turn them into Tin Can Lanterns? Lets get started!

You are going to need a few things:

  1. A Hammer
  2. Some Nails
  3. Paper
  4. Scissors
  5. Tape
  6. Permanent Marker
  7. Tin cans
  8. Candles or LEDs

Making Tin Can Lanterns is so simple you will wonder why you never thought to do this yourself!

The first thing you will need to do is clean the tin cans, remove the labels and fill them with water. Once done we are going to freeze the water in the cans. This is so that while we are pounding a nail through the side of the tin can, the tin can will not bend or warp!

While your tin cans are freezing take this time to create your designs and patterns. I found hundreds on Pinterest! Simply draw your patterns (a lot of dots) on your piece of paper! Here are some for inspiration!

Now your design is done and your tin can is frozen! Well lets use that tape and put your design onto your tin can!

Once your pattern is secured use your hammer and your nail to make the holes! Once done let the ice melt.

Place your candle or LEDs into your Tin Can Lanterns and hang them up! I would personally use LEDs because you can choose different colors! As well LEDs are safer as there are no open flames!

Once done you have some beautiful Tin Can Lanterns that are a perfect accent to any yard!

After writing this I found a new tutorial for a Tin Can Solar Lantern Tutorial!
