DIY Soaker HoseDIY Soaker Hose

I do not have a soaker hose, but this is certainly on my list of things to do! While on Pinterest I can across an article as to why you should have a soaker hose.

A soaker hose is a great way to lighten your load while gardening. Simply connect the hose to your water tap, turn it on for a few minutes, you’re done. Your garden is watered and you have more time for yourself (less time for the mosquitoes to eat you).

What you will need:

  1. A Garden Hose or hoses, how many will differ based on the size of your garden and how well you cover your garden.
  2. A knife, screwdriver, safety pin or other sharp object you can use to make small holes in the Garden Hose.
  3. Some wire pins and mulch used to hold the hose in place.
  4. A cap for the end of the hose, do not want all the water rushing out of the end!

What you do:

  1. Lay out the Garden Hose in front of you
  2. Very carefully with your sharp object, poke holes in the top half of the Garden Hose, we only want holes in the top of the Garden Hose so that we have water shooting up and away from the Garden Hose. This will make the water spray out like a water sprinkler!
  3. I would say to poke holes every inch or so in the Garden Hose.
  4. Now that we have the Garden Hose prepared we need to lay it out. For this do a test, see how far out water will shoot up, this will give you a better idea of how far apart you place hoses.
  5. Now place the hoses in the garden, remembering to tie them down with your wire pins.
  6. Cover the wire pins with your mulch to hide them and keep everything looking pretty!
  7. All that is left is to plug in your Garden Hose and turn it on. Turn it on for maybe five minutes a night. That should get your garden nice and wet.

There you have it, your very own DIY Soaker Hose!
